After completing this topic, students will be able to produce one centre spread of a magazine with their favourite personality as the subject. Students must use the rules of typography that have been learned in this chapter.
- Assignment: Produce a typographic centre spread for a magazine using ‘ favourite personality’ theme.
- Technique: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign
- Size: A3 or A4 x 2 (landscape)
- Duration: 2 weeks
- Print Colour
- After you have chosen the personality, then produce 5 thumbnails for the design.
- Then choose one from the thumbnails for a comprehensive sketch that will be a reference in the computer.
- You are encouraged to do the article about the personality by yourself, or you can find one from any magazines.
Based on above design I am showing what is interesting in my hometown. Firstly, the Polumpung Malangkap camp site in Kota Belud is one of the place that went viral in 2018. The camping site is remarkable because of it’s view. We can see the Mount Kinabalu from the camp site.
Next , Esplanade Sipitang is famous by it’s sunset during the evening and also the food especially satay. Satay Sipitang is one of the most famous Satay place in Sabah. Aside from Satay, Kelupis is also one of our favourite dish. Kelupis is a glutinuos rice cooked in coconut milk and wrap in a leaf called the ‘daun ngirik’.
Last but not least is a festival where we can discover and explore many culture. Sabah has varieties of ethnic living in one state so by having this festival people from across the country and neighbour country will get to know the culture we have in Sabah. In addition, ‘tamu besar’ provides you many goods that you can buy such as ‘kek lapis Sarawak’, accessories and traditional outfits.
However, I tried to consult with a friend of mine and got some suggestions to improve the design and correct my mistakes. Below is the result.
All in all, the challenges that I experience during making this design is I need to choose the most suitable fonts and pictures compositions to match the layout that I refer.
Finally, after we have done our assessment I got some recommendation on how to make my design even better.
